Upper Mustang Trek is a surge to the ancient utopian civilization in the Upper Mustang Region of Nepal. There are all these fascinating packages of places that come along with this trek. The upper mustang itinerary starts from Kathmandu after you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport. However, the trekking days will only start from Jomsom. With Heaven Himalaya, the maximum elevation you take on the trek is to Nyi La Pass after Ghaymi which is at 4010 m (13,156ft). Although the height you trek to is above 3500 m, it is a moderate level trek and doesn’t incorporate any difficulties. So, it is also a suitable option for beginner trekkers planning to hike in the high Himalayas.

Upper Mustang generally includes the northern half of the Mustang district close to the Tibetan Border. It is a very historically significant place till this date.

 Upper Mustank  is a big piece of dry land. Nevertheless the  beauty it harbours is unmatchable. Since it receives the least rainfall, the region is one of the driest of all in Nepal.Despite being fry, there are all these beautiful rivers that walk along the mountains . For instance, it is one of the best sites for monsoon treks as well.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel.

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. After settling in, you can either rest or explore the vibrant streets of Kathmandu, getting a glimpse of the city's rich cultural heritage.

Day 2 : Morning tour of Kathmandu heritage sites, afternoon at leisure.

Popularly known for its  art, architecture, culture, and temples,there are so many things Kathmandu can offer to you.  There are some UNESCO world heritage sites such as the Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath, Boudhhanath, and Basantapur Durbar Square you might fancy a visit. You can entertain yourself with some  shopping for your trek in the afternoon. After a brief  orientation session , you can rest at your hotel. Stay overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 3 : Drive to Pokhara 820 m / 2,690 feet and transfer to the hotel - 06 hrs.

Today, you drive to the picturesque city of Pokhara, a journey that takes approximately six hours. Pokhara, renowned for its tranquil lakes and stunning mountain views, serves as the gateway to the Annapurna region. After reaching Pokhara, you can unwind by Phewa Lake or explore the lakeside area.

Day 4 : Morning flight to Jomsom 2,710 m / 2,690 feet and trek to Kagbeni 2,807 m / 2,690 feet (22 mins on flight) - 04 hours walks.

Take an early morning flight to Jomsom, a major hub in the Mustang region. From Jomsom, commence your trek to Kagbeni, a charming village at 2,807 meters. The trail follows the Kali Gandaki River, and you'll witness the unique landscapes of the Mustang region, with its barren hills and traditional settlements.

Day 5 : Trek to Chusang (Tsusang) 2,920 m / 9,580 feet - 06 hrs.

The trek continues as you head towards Chusang, also known as Tsusang, at an altitude of 2,920 meters. The trail meanders through the Kali Gandaki Valley, offering views of red and ochre cliffs. Chusang, with its traditional architecture, provides a glimpse into the local Mustang culture.

Day 6 : Trek to Samar 3,290 m /10,793 feet - 05 hrs.

As you ascend, the landscape transitions, and you trek to the village of Samar at an altitude of 3,290 meters. The trail takes you through picturesque landscapes, and you'll have the opportunity to interact with the locals and experience the unique culture of the Mustang region.

Day 7 : Trek to Ghiling 3,600 m / 11,811 feet - 05 hrs.

The trek leads to Ghiling at 3,600 meters, passing through scenic landscapes and traditional villages. The trail offers views of Mustang's unique topography and distant snow-capped peaks. Ghiling provides a tranquil setting for your overnight stay.

Day 8 : Trek to Tsarang (Charang) 3,520 m / 11,549 feet - 06 hrs.

Continue your journey to Tsarang, also known as Charang, at an elevation of 3,520 meters. The trek takes you through interesting terrain, including the Ghami La Pass, providing panoramic views of the Mustang region. Tsarang boasts an ancient monastery and traditional architecture.

Day 9 : Trek to Lo-Manthang 3,780 m / 12,402 feet - 05 hrs.

Today's trek takes you to the walled city of Lo-Manthang, the capital of the Mustang region, situated at 3,780 meters. As you enter the city gates, you are greeted by a fascinating blend of ancient culture and architecture. Lo-Manthang offers a unique and enriching experience, showcasing the rich heritage of the Mustang Kingdom.

Day 10 : In Lo-Manthang rest day for acclimatization and local visit.

Take a day to acclimatize to the higher altitude and explore the cultural wonders of Lo-Manthang. Visit the ancient monasteries, the Royal Palace, and interact with the friendly locals to gain a deeper understanding of Mustang's unique traditions.

Day 11 : Trek to Drakmar 3,810 m - 05 hrs.

Leaving Lo-Manthang, the trail takes you to Drakmar at an elevation of 3,810 meters. The trek offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes, and you'll pass through traditional villages with whitewashed houses. Drakmar provides a peaceful environment for your overnight stay.

Day 12 : Trek to Ghiling 3,806 m - 06 hrs.

The trek retraces its steps as you return to Ghiling, passing through familiar landscapes and enjoying the unique charm of Mustang's villages. Ghiling offers a comfortable stop for the night, allowing you to relax and reflect on the journey so far.

Day 13 : Trek to Chusang / Tsusang 3,050 m - 05 hrs.

Descend further as you trek back to Chusang, also known as Tsusang, at 3,050 meters. The trail takes you through diverse landscapes, and you'll have the opportunity to revisit the cultural landmarks along the way. Chusang welcomes you for a second stay, providing a familiar setting.

Day 14 : Trek to Jomsom 2,715 m - 06 hrs.

The final trekking day leads you back to Jomsom at an elevation of 2,715 meters. The trail offers a mix of terrains, from arid landscapes to traditional villages. Upon reaching Jomsom, you can celebrate the completion of the trek and reminisce about the unique experiences of the Mustang region.

Day 15 : Fly to Pokhara and transfer to respective hotels.

Take an early morning flight back to Pokhara, enjoying aerial views of the Mustang region and the Annapurna range. Upon reaching Pokhara, you can either relax or explore the lakeside area, reflecting on the adventure of the Upper Mustang Trek.

Day 16 : Drive to Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel.

You have the option to either drive or take a short flight back to Kathmandu. The journey provides a different perspective of the landscape, and upon arrival in Kathmandu, you'll be transferred to your hotel. It's an opportunity to rest and share the stories of the Upper Mustang Trek.

Day 17 : At Kathmandu free for individual activities and leisure day.

Enjoy a free day in Kathmandu for individual activities and relaxation. You may choose to explore more of the city, shop for souvenirs, or simply unwind. It's a perfect day to reflect on the journey and savor the memories before your departure.

Day 18 : Final Departure (Farewell)

On this last day, we will drop you at the International airport 3 hours before your flight time by our representative. Thank you and have a safe journey.
